Our Process

Independent Cabinetmaker has six solid steps involved in our process of cabinet making, from the initial concept to completion. Whether you’re looking for a stylish new cabinet to be fitted out in the kitchen, bathroom or laundry room – Derek can customise it just right! If you’re looking for kitchen cabinetmakers or bathroom cabinetmakers in Cairns or the surrounding areas, there’s only one name to remember.

Quote

The first step in our kitchen design process is for Derek to come out and give you an obligation free quote for your kitchen renovation/build in Cairns or any surrounding areas. During this time, Derek takes the time necessary for measurement and discussion. He will use this information along with what works best in order to create a space that is tailored just right! Derek will send you an estimate quote and a floor plan of what was discussed.

Order

When you’re happy with the design and amount quoted, Derek will arrange a second meeting to discuss colours for your cabinets.

At this stage, he measures the area again, confirming the original measurements, so that we can make sure everything fits properly before proceeding any further. After that, Derek provides the final quote as well as deposit details.

Production

Once we have all of our plans and specifications approved, the job goes into production. At this stage, cutting lists are created and the materials for your job are ordered.

The entire kitchen is manufactured within our factory by our cabinetmaker who pays attention to every detail. The kitchen is then assembled, and we review the job before it is set aside for delivery.

Pre-Installation

You’re excited to start your new kitchen makeover! You can expect a phone call from Derek about a week in advance, to book an installation for your new kitchen renovation.

This will allow time to clear out your cupboards so that the old kitchen can be removed. This would be a great time to have any preparation done for the utilities such as plumbing and electrical, etc. We can also help with that!

Installation

We will arrive early in the morning on the day of installation. Firstly, we will remove the old kitchen and arrange for the tradespeople to come in and do all the prep work required.

It takes a few days to install your kitchen and once completed, your tradespeople will return to re-connect. It is then time to enjoy your new kitchen.

Stone Tops & Splashbacks

The installation of these lengthens the process. The stone people arrive to measure the template after the kitchen has been installed and return to install the stone tops a week later. Once that has been completed, you would arrange for the tradespeople to re-connect all of your appliances. If you have chosen glass splash backs, these will be measured once the stone has been fitted. Installation time for the splash backs is about 2 weeks.

Derek from the business 'Independent Cabinetmaker' was great to deal with. I required a new bathroom cabinet to replace one that was water damaged. He responded to my call, made a time to come and give me a quote. He was on time, and asked questions in order to fully understand what I wanted. He told me when I would receive his quote, and it arrived when he said. The quote was thorough and, I felt, a very reasonable price. After agreeing to go ahead, Derek explained the timeframe. He again delivered on time. His workmanship and attention to detail was admirable. We are thrilled with our new cabinet, which completely transforms our bathroom.
